Gung Hei Fat Choi!
It is a new year, according to the Chinese traditional calendar, starting January 26, 2009. This year is the year of the ox.
Red and gold are important colours at the new year. Red symbolizes happiness and abundance (having plenty of everything). Gold symbolizes power.
We will learn and practice writing some Chinese characters on small red and gold banners to decorate our classroom and possibly bring us luck for the coming year.
