Middle Ages model and test

Reminder: your medieval model is due tomorrow. We will have a gallery walk viewing and evaluation on Friday. You will self-evaluate, have your peers evaluate and I will evaluate, too.

Your model will be evaluated out of 100 marks, according to how well it meets the following criteria:

  • Authenticity or Realism
  • Evidence of Learning
  • Detail and Effort

There is a Middle Ages Unit test on Tuesday, March 31. It will be worth approximately 85 or 90 marks.

Topics to review are

  • Time period of the Middle Ages (approx. 500 to 1500 C.E.)
  • The different way of life that developed after the Roman Empire ends (feudalism)
  • The people involved in the feudal contract and their obligations to each other (eg. lord gives land, protection, court of justice and guardianship of vassal's children to the vassal and the vassal in return provides 40 days military service, participation in the court, ransom money, relief payment, service on holidays, payment when lord's daughter got married or son became a knight)
  • Important people (Charlemagne, King Arthur, Robin Hood, Eleanor of Acquitaine, Joan of Arc, Pope Urban II, etc.)
  • Reasons people went on Crusades (would you have?)
  • Main differences between life then and yours now
  • Medieval entertainments
  • Jobs of women
  • Castle defences
  • Cathedral styles
  • Life of a peasant on a manor
  • Black Death (symptoms, causes, ways to treat)
  • Justice (how did people determine if someone was guilty or innocent of a crime? What were crimes and punishments back then?)
  • A knight's stages of training
  • Vikings (where they're from, types of ships, jobs they did when not fighting)
